Common questions about payments

Q: Why no credit cards or PayPal?

Credit cards and PayPal require identity verification and create a paper trail linking you to your server. We eliminated them entirely to protect your privacy. Crypto-only means no one — not us, not a payment processor — can connect your real identity to your hosting account.

Q: Why self-hosted BTCPay Server?

Third-party payment processors collect data — transaction amounts, IP addresses, timestamps. By running our own BTCPay Server, we control the entire payment flow. No external service sees your transaction. Your payment stays between you and our infrastructure.

Q: Which crypto is the most private?

Monero (XMR). Bitcoin and USDT transactions are pseudonymous but visible on a public blockchain. Monero uses ring signatures and stealth addresses to make transactions untraceable. If maximum privacy matters, pay with Monero.

Q: What email do I use to sign up?

Any email. We recommend using a privacy-focused email provider like ProtonMail or Tutanota — or a disposable alias. We only use it to send you login credentials and renewal notices.

Q: What happens if I overpay or underpay?

BTCPay Server handles slight overpayments automatically — any excess is applied as credit. For underpayments, you'll receive a notification to send the remaining balance. Contact support if you run into issues.

Q: Do you offer refunds?

Due to the irreversible nature of cryptocurrency transactions and the instant provisioning of our services, we do not offer cash refunds. Remaining balances can be applied as account credit. See our Terms of Service for details.
